Ahwazi activists’ large-scale arrests after widespread protests in Iran

The Iranian authorities have launched a large-scale operation of arrests against Ahwaz activists in the various cities of Ahwaz region to prevent their participation in the massive demonstrations taking place in all regions of non-Persian nations and central cities in Iran in recent days.

The demonstrations in the non-Persian nations’ provinces and other Iranian cities have been marked against the deteriorating living conditions of citizens following the worsening economic crises in the country and the collapse of the Iranian currency to its lowest levels, in addition to the widespread unemployment crises, pollution of the environment and the lack of drinking water in Ahwaz.

According to reliable sources within Ahwaz reported to Ahwazi Centre for Human Rights (ACHR) that an extensive arrest campaign carried out by Iranian security service against a number of Ahwazi activists in different cities, especially Hamidiyeh City, on Thursday second of August 2018.

The Iranian security forces has arrested the following activsts:

  1. 1- Engineer Ali Sayahi – 35 years old – Married, has two children,

  2. 2- Amir Sayahi – 30 years old – Married, has one child,

  3. 3- Shahab Sayahi – 22 years old – university student,

  4. 4- Abbas Saadi son of Idan – 27 years old – graduate of the Faculty of Law,

  5. 5- Maher Manbouhi – 27 years old – Agriculture graduate – Married,

  6. 6- Malik Manbouhi – Age 24 years – Married – Teacher,

The Iranian security service has arrested Ahwazi from Hamidiyeh city on Saturday the 4th of August 2018 and ACHR has identified following names:

  1. 1- Nabi Saadi son of Idan – 22 years old – Married,

  2. 2- Ahmed Al-Saadi – 22 years old,

ACHR been notified that the Nabi Saadi and Ahmad al-Saadi went on Saturday the 4th of August 2018 to the Iranian intelligence headquarters in Ahwaz capital to oppose the arrest of their older brother Abbas Saadi, but Iranian intelligence agents arrested and transferred them to prison.

Ali Manbouhi, the father of the two Ahwazi arrested men, Malik and Maher, was sentenced to 25 years in prison for threatening Iran’s national security previously. He has been in prison for 18 years in various prisons in Iran, the most recent of which was Shaiban prison in Ahwaz capital.

According to reports from Ahwaz, the Iranian security forces transferred the all detainees to the Sheyban prison.

The arrests come as a precautionary measure by Iranian forces to prevent Ahwazi activists from organizing demonstrations and protests, as well as to instil fear and fear in the hearts of the Ahwaz young.
